The Seven Letters of COURAGE

Courage Club is built on seven letters: C-O-U-R-A-G-E. Every group begins with C for Confident, the foundation everything else builds on. From there, the other six letters can be earned in any order. Each pennant is earned, not given, and it's a lasting reminder of what a kid has accomplished. Collect all seven and you've spelled COURAGE and completed the Courage Club program.

C — Confident
Every group starts here
Every Courage Club journey starts here, because confidence is the foundation everything else builds on. Kids learn to introduce themselves clearly, make eye contact, and speak up in a group without shrinking back. They set their first Courage Count benchmarks in Movement, so they can see the proof that they're getting stronger. In Mindfulness, they start noticing the voice in their head and learn to turn "I can't" into "I'm learning." By the end of the letter, kids know that confidence isn't something you're born with. It's something you practise.

O — Own It
This letter is about responsibility. Kids learn to own their choices, their mistakes, and their effort, without blaming, making excuses, or giving up. Through team challenges and real-life scenarios, they practise saying "that was me" and then fixing it. In Movement, they track their own progress and hold themselves to their word. They come away understanding that owning what happens isn't about getting in trouble. It's what makes them someone others can trust.

U — Unique
Every kid has something no one else brings to the group. In this letter, kids explore their strengths, interests, and the things that make them different, and they learn to see those differences as assets rather than reasons to hide. Activities encourage self-expression, and kids practise recognizing what makes their teammates unique too. For kids who sometimes feel like they don't fit in, this letter is often where things click: belonging doesn't mean being the same.

R — Respectful
Respect is shown through actions, so that's how we teach it. Kids practise listening without interrupting, disagreeing politely, winning and losing with grace, and treating shared space and equipment with care. They also learn self-respect: speaking kindly to themselves, taking care of their bodies through movement, and setting healthy boundaries. Through partner challenges and group games, kids see how respect makes every team stronger and every room a better place to be.

A — Adaptable
Plans change, things go wrong, and sometimes the game doesn't go your way. This letter teaches kids how to handle it. They work through challenges with changing rules and surprise obstacles, and they learn to stay calm, rethink, and try again. In Mindfulness, they build simple tools for managing frustration and big feelings in the moment. Kids leave with a flexible, problem-solving mindset that helps at school, at home, and anywhere life throws a curveball.

G — Goal-Driven
Here kids learn how goals actually get reached. They set a realistic personal goal, break it into small steps, track their progress, and adjust when they hit a wall. Their Courage Count shows them how much consistent effort adds up over five sessions, and their progress is measured against themselves, not anyone else. Along the way, they learn the difference between wishing and working, and they feel the pride that comes from earning something.

E — Empathetic
This letter turns courage outward. Kids learn to read how others are feeling, offer encouragement, and stand up for someone who needs it. Through compliment circles, team missions, and helping newer members, they discover that real courage includes kindness. It's a powerful letter at any point in the journey, and it reminds kids that being strong in body and mind means something because of how they treat the people around them.
